Alarm and Perimeter Protection Systems

Multi-layer intrusion detection and protection of critical infrastructures

Layer 1 Technologies delivers integrated intrusion alarm systems for industrial buildings, warehouses, data centers and commercial sites where security is a critical operational factor. Each project is engineered after a thorough analysis of the site and the selection of suitable equipment so that protection is reliable, with no false positives and no blind spots.

An alarm system can operate standalone or be integrated with CCTV and Access Control, providing unified monitoring and real-time notifications. Every project is tailored to the operational needs, risk profile, and compliance standards of the customer.

Alarm and Perimeter Protection Systems

Multi-layer intrusion detection for industrial sites, warehouses and data centers. EN 50131 Grade 2/3, video verification and CCTV/Access Control integration.

Technical scope

  • Survey and zoning of areas and security requirements per zone (perimeter, production, offices, data rooms).
  • Selection of security level (Grade 2 or Grade 3) according to EN 50131 and the project’s operational needs.
  • Topology design, selection of control panels, communication modules and sensor types (PIR, dual-tech, microwave, fence detection).
  • Communication paths analysis (IP, GSM or dual-path) and backup power design.
  • Cable routing study, device sizing and autonomy calculations.
  • Installation, configuration and testing of all subsystems (zones, relays, sirens, control units).
  • Integration with CCTV, Access Control, BMS or SCADA for unified monitoring and video verification.
  • Commissioning and handover of the complete technical dossier (as-built drawings, reports, manuals, credentials).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What do the EN 50131 security Grades mean?

The European standard EN 50131 defines four Grades for intrusion systems based on risk level, type of site and the skill level of a potential intruder.

Grade Description Indicative Applications
1 Protection against accidental or opportunistic intrusion. Basic detectors and panels without redundancy. Small offices, low-risk stores/warehouses, non-public areas.
2 Protection against an intruder with basic system knowledge and simple tools. Includes tamper protection and backup power. Retail, small businesses, hotels, warehouses.
3 Protection against an intruder with advanced knowledge and professional tools. Enhanced comms modules, dual detection, line protection, high immunity to interference. Industry, data centers, telecom nodes, banks, critical infrastructures.
4 Highest security with redundancy at all levels, anti-masking detectors and encrypted communications. Military/government facilities, highly sensitive sites.

All Layer 1 installations meet Grade 2 by default. Grade 3 is required when:

  • Critical loads or systems must be protected (e.g., data center, control room, substation).
  • The site is an industrial/energy environment with access by third parties or external contractors.
  • Security certification or compliance with ISO 27001 / NIS2 / GDPR is requested.
  • Real-time integration with CCTV or Access Control and event logging is required.
